It’s interesting how your path in life can change just by simple gesture of kindness.

BakeTreats Inc. is a family-owned and family-operated business based in West Bloomfield, Michigan.  I am Rhonda, the baker. Paul, my husband, handles the business side of things and helps out in the kitchen. Our son, Adam, helps in the kitchen.

Paul needed a holiday gift for his landlord who owned the famous “Lark Restaurant” in West Bloomfield, Michigan.  When he asked me what he could give them, I suggested a cake that takes six hours to make.  Only a skilled baker would tackle that.  I was definitely not a skilled baker having baked only a few things in my life, but I was up for the challenge.

I made them a cake that serves 25 people; 3 chocolate cakes layered with chocolate ganache and raspberry jam, and then covered in chocolate ganache.  Then came the hard part, pouring melted chocolate onto an acetate gold buttercream design and then wrapping it around this monster of a cake.  The top was filled with fresh berries and the cake was finally finished.

This stunning cake was given to Mary and Jim Lark for their holiday party and was so well received that they wanted to know what else I could make.

I was hooked!  I started baking and by making changes to recipes, I was able to develop my own creations.

We launched “BakeTreats, Inc.” in 2015 and started selling at Farmers’ Markets, one of which we began managing in 2017.  In mid-2018, we began manufacturing in a commercial kitchen in Royal Oak, Michigan and we now have our products in stores.

All of our products use natural ingredients – always with butter and without added preservatives.  Our cookies are individually wrapped and have nutritional labels with authentic GS1 barcodes.

We have enjoyed repeat business since the first day at the first market as well as numerous special orders – large and small – coming from patrons of the farmers' markets.

We know that everyone loves Chocolate Chip cookies, but who would have thought that our second best seller is Cranberry Pistachio!

One act of kindness can change a life and I’m so grateful that it did.
